The ceremonies were held in the school's gymnasium, which was crowded with more than 1,000 friends and relatives of the new graduates. The three student speakers at the hour-long event described their mixture of fears and joy at leaving their high school. "I'm happy and I'm sad now -I've got a lump in my throat," said Paul A. Vigna of Adams, who gave the main address. Telling his fellow graduates that "the only direction to look is ahead," Vigna concluded with a poem he had written for the occasion. The work, titled "What Is This, Anyway?" ended adults when most world leaders are behaving as children." Nevertheless, he urged the graduates to keep a sense of humor and not be afraid of admitting their apprehensions. Both speeches were preceded by the salutatory address of Brenda M. Favreau of Adams, who thanked the audience of parents and friends for being "here to share our emotions with us." After the students received their diplomas from high school prinicipal William J.
